Customer Reviews & Ratings
Real Mexican food, everything was delicious , authentic hot sauces were supper good and tasty. I would totally recommend this place.
I ordered the Oaxaca style quesadillas. They were deep-fried and filled with cheese and some fresh herb. Served alongside three different salsas, cheese, and fresh vegetables. Lady was really nice and polite and gave me a good opportunity to practice my Spanish.
I really enjoy this taqueria. It's become one of my regular spots in the peninsula. Only tried the asada burritos and tacos so far. What stands out for me is their asada. It's flavored and cooked just how I like! The meat isn't chewy, it's cut small, and charred. The salsas are also pretty fire. My only thing is I wish they gave bigger portions in their burritos. The meat on the tacos is pretty generous though.
Everything I've tried from this place is amazing! Parking here can be a hit or miss. I feel lucky to have found this place in San Mateo, delicious. Great staff very attentive
Great place to grab some tacos!! Came for lunch on a Tuesday, and they had a taco Tuesday deal with three tacos and a soda for $11. There might be a little bit of a wait to order and get the food, but it's well worth! I wanted to try the quesabirria and the tacos, so I grabbed both to share with a friend. The tacos were really delicious, and I like that the meat was very flavorful. The quesabirria was also delicious but not the best I had. They gave a huge bowl for the consommé, which is a huge plus to enjoy with chips! Service was really fast. They have an outdoor patio that is shaded with umbrellas, perfect for a hot day out.
Never have I ever been so happy to break my diet with a burrito and not regret it. We were trying to be careful and not over splurge on calories and price point and in both cases taqueria las pencas 2 was the right choice. We got a regular pollo burrito, a quesadilla to share and 2 pastor taco's. They came with chips and sufficient salsa (saw some reviews mention inadequate salsa - not our experience) . Food was delivered in under 45 minutes (Doordash delivery) The meal left 2 very hungry people very satisfied and bookmarking this restaurant for next time.
The Taqueria Las Pencas location in San Mateo is starting to cement itself as one of my favorite Mexican restaurants to order from. This is definitely a spot that I feel is pretty underrated and their flavor and quality impresses me each time. I ordered through Doordash multiple times and the food is still great. In my last couple orders I got the Quesabirria ($15.50), Lengua Quesadilla ($13.75), and the Tripa Regular Taco ($4.50). The portions and the amount of meat they give you is very generous as well which is a big plus. I ordered the Quesabirria in one instance and I would take my rating with an extra grain of salt because I had it sit for an hour or so and had to reheat it in the airfryer, but the flavor and texture still turned out amazing. The sauce that comes with the Quesabirria is also pretty spicy, but it adds such a nice kicks and flavor to it. Their consome is also one of the best ones I've had as of late and you get a great cheese pull from their birria tacos. 10/10 despite them being a little over $5 a taco. My most recent experience I wanted to try their lengua (beef tongue) and tripa (intestines) because they are my favorites to get at a taqueria. They charge $1 extra for lengua and tripa, but I personally feel its worth it because they have great quality and taste. The portions of their quesadilla are huge and the texture of the lengua also goes very well with it. The lengua taco has a nice subtle crisp and a strong flavor while also have a great fresh tortilla. Both of my orders were at least a 9/10. Their horchata I ordered for a friend, but it was also one of the better horchatas I had. It wasn't watered down at all and it had a strong cinnamon flavor. Would highly recommend it. Overall, I will likely order from here again and be one of my go to spots whenever I'm in San Mateo or ordering delivery.
